Christopher Brooke: born 1974 in Newark, UK
Bruno Basso: born 1978 in Santos, Spain
Bruno Basso and Christopher Brooke come from very different cultures, and their playful, individual style is a fusion of those backgrounds.
While Bruno studied advertising and journalism at college, he went on to work, from 1998, as as a graphic designer, art director and curator. Christopher on the other hand studied fashion at Kingston University, going on to focus on womenswear at Central Saint Martins.
The pair met in 2002 and created the Basso and Brooke label.
Making their London Fashion Week debut in September 2004, shortly after winning the Fashion Fringe Award for a collection marked by its sexual exuberance, they went on to sign a contract with luxury goods manufacturer Aeffe, which also collaborates with Moschino and Jean Paul Gaultier.
Following their second Fashion Week show - a counterpoint to the first in being inspired by medieval imagery of repressed eroticism – the duo was invited to show in Moscow, Singapore, Sao Paulo, Shanghai and South Korea.
Their current collection is inspired by Frank Gehry, Iris Apfel, Oscar Niemeyer and, as always, technology.
