Born: 1982 in Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada
Knitwear designer Mark Fast grew up in the forests outside Winnipeg, enjoying a peaceful rural upbringing which led him to wonder about life beyond the frontiers of his Canadian homeland.
His curiosity led him to London where he studied at Central Saint Martins for five years. A BA under his belt, he went on to complete his MA in February 2008, at the same time creating three seasons of knitwear for Bora Aksu.
Knitting everything by hand on a domestic knitting machine, Mark - who takes inspiration from the past, especially historical costume - uses innovative stitching techniques to blend lycra with viscose, angora or wool. "I try and create a mixture of beauty and severity," he explains.
